Reading FC are set for their highest Championship mile tally for the Millennium next season, racking up more than 7,000 miles.

Despite having only 23 of the 24 Championship sides confirmed, this totals more than 6,900 miles- a figure only higher in 2018/19.

Once you add in either Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield Town, the loser of the play-off final, this jumps to 7,198 or 7,326 respectively- the highest since a Championship return in 2002.

With a second tier return for Sunderland, it sees the Royals embark on two 500 mile plus round trips, as well as six additional 400 plus mile round trips.

Only two clubs are within 100 miles, with Millwall and Watford 92- and 88-mile round trips, while the likes of Luton and QPR hover slightly above it according to Google Maps.

This makes the Paul Ince’s side the most southernly club in the division next season

Last season the total figure was 6,476, with only one 500 mile plus round trip to the Riverside.

This will put undoubted strain on the fanbase, especially with a cost of living crisis.

Despite this, travelling supporter numbers did increase last season, and have increased year-on-year since 2018.

Disappointingly, fan favourite trips to Craven Cottage and Bournemouth are off the agenda with their Premier League promotions, with Watford's Vicarage Road, QPR's Kyian Prince Foundation Stadium and Millwall's Den the nearest grounds to the SCL Stadium.
