A SIGN with life-saving information was defaced along a river in Slough.

Slough Borough Council found the sign, which has information about an emergency throw line, vandalised along the Jubilee River a few weeks ago.

It was originally put up to help anyone who gets into trouble in the water.

The Environment Agency has now cleaned it up for people to read the sign clearly.

A Slough Borough Council spokesperson said: “It is extremely disappointing to see safety signs and life-saving equipment vandalised in this way.

“It could mean the difference between life and death for someone in the river as it could delay help getting to them.

“The council, Environment Agency, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police are all working together to spread the water safety message.”

The council spokesperson added there are “hidden dangers” in the Jubilee River such as undercurrents and the risk of cold water shock.

They said: “We remind people not to go into the river to cool off in warm weather. It’s not worth the risk.”

A water safety video was launched in schools earlier this year.
