A READING man has been accused offering his daughter 'rewards' after sexually abusing her.

The 42-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also alleged to have incited sexual activity with the girl and committed voyeurism between 2018 and 2019.

The defendant, from north Reading, denies the charges, having branded the allegations as ‘total lies’ in a police interview.

He is accused of watching his daughter shower, touching her breasts and thigh, lying on top of her, thrusting against her, and pulling her clothing down to view her genitals.

His alleged activities were discovered by the girl’s mother when she found letters from a friend of her daughter.

In these letters, the girl’s friend urged her to tell someone about her father’s alleged abuse.

The mother checked the handwriting against birthday cards her daughter had received and identified the sender of the letter.

She then contacted the friend’s father, who found in his own daughter’s room letters from the victim that outlined the man’s alleged abuse.

The letter read: “The things he has done to me would get him imprisoned for ten years.

“This includes trying to [digitally penetrate] me and asking if he can go all the way, and telling me to take my clothes off.”

The alleged victim’s friend responded: “He put you through absolute hell and in my opinion, deserves to pay for what he has done.”

A jury was shown a video of the alleged victim being interviewed, in which she claimed her father would leave the room ‘happier’ after touching her, and that her father promised to ‘reward’ her if she touched herself.

She denied inventing the allegations ‘for attention’ when questioned by a defence barrister.

The defendant was charged after being arrested near the close of 2020.
