Reading have been declared one of the biggest Championship underachievers by the OLBG.

Using data to compare each sides pre-season odds with their final finish, clubs were ranked on both over and under achieving.

The Royals were predicted to finish 11th after last year’s seventh placed finish but ended the 2021/22 campaign in 21st.

Despite being deducted six points for breaking Profit and Sustainability regulations, the side would still have ended the season one place above the relegation zone even with the extra six points added on.

Reading Chronicle:

They were not the biggest disappointments though, with Barnsley dropping a whopping 14 places from their pre-season prediction of 10th.

The Tykes finished bottom, even below Derby County who were docked 21 points over the course of the season and went through three different managers.

On the other end of the spectrum, Huddersfield Town saw the biggest overachievement with an increase of 19 positions.

The Terriers were predicted to finish 22nd, which would have resulted in relegation to League One, but have incredibly finished in third place and are just three matches away from a Premier League return.

Luton Town, the Yorkshire sides opponents in the play-off semi-final, have also defied the bookies- finishing 13 places higher than expected.

Nathan Jones’ Hatters were tipped to finish 19th but have stormed into sixth place and take the last play-off place.
