West Brom are "optimistic" that they will convince Reading star John Swift to make the trip to the Hawthorns ahead of next season, according to reports.

The 26-year-old has been with the Royals since 2016 and had his best season for the club this year with 11 goals and 13 assists.

However, the highly-rated attacking midfielder is out of contract this season and so will be available on a free transfer.

Swift won Players' Player of the Year and Vice President's Player of the Year at this season's End of Year awards gala.

Not without potential suitors, the former England Under-21 international has been linked with Leeds United, Brentford and Burnley in recent months, but according to the Athletic he could be heading to the West Midlands.

Steve Madeley, of the prestigious online sports news brand, states "Albion are optimistic that John Swift, the out-of-contract Reading midfielder, can be persuaded that The Hawthorns is the ideal stage to show off the talents that have made him one of the Championship’s most prolific creators, even in a team that has struggled this season."

This would see Swift remain in the Championship, a division he has played the vast majority of his football- but at a club with the resources to challenge for the Premier League.
