The Portugese boss is currently at Braga in the Portugal top-flight, most-recently ending Porto's 58-match unbeaten run with a 1-0 win.
Reported in the Sun, Carvalhal is thought to be "keen on another crack" at Championship football.
The report goes on to say "Reading could be one option for Carvalhal...if Paul Ince does not take the job on a permanent basis."

Having led the Owls to back-to-back top six apperances, the 56-year-old has Championship pedigree, and could be a feasible option if Paul Ince were to leave at the end of the season.
Carvalhal's contract with Braga, who were knocked out of the Europa League by Scottish champions Rangers, expires at the end of the season- which can only increase the attractiveness to the Royals, who have their well-known financial obsticles.

Ince has remained coy on his future at the club, refusing to make comment on the matter until the end of the season- but it was reported last month that the former England midfielder had been offered the job on a full-time basis.
