Former Reading FC attacker Sone Aluko will extend his stay at Ipswich Town after triggering a renewal clause in contract, according to reports.

The Nigeria international joined the Tractor Boys after his contract with Reading expired in summer 2021.

A big money move in 2017, thought to be around the £7m mark, caught the attention after the Royals reached the Championship play-off final.

His debut season was his most productive, with three goals, including a stunning long-distance strike against QPR in Paul Clement’s debut match- which went a long way in confirming Championship status for Reading.

 

 

However, just six goals in 102 appearances, the former Hull City and Aberdeen wide player failed to make the desired impact in Berkshire and departed following the end of his four-year contract.

Three goals in 36 appearances for Kieran McKenna’s side has triggered an automatic one-year extension, according to reports from TWTD.

Now 33, the experienced winger looks set to remain at Portman Road for another 12 months, trying to help the Suffolk-side to regain the all-important Championship status after a three-year spell in League One.

They are currently 11th in the League One table on a run of eight games without a win, which has left the former UEFA Cup winners 13 points outside the top six.
