Reading FC have been linked with signing Newcastle United youngster Elliott Anderson on loan next season, according to reports.

The 19-year-old is currently on loan in League Two with Bristol Rovers and has contributed six goals and three assists in 18 appearances.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder, he has also appeared on the left-hand side for the Gas as they fight for the fourth-tier play-offs, currently sat in fifth.

According to an exclusive from TEAMtalk, the Magpies are keen to keep him for pre-season but would like to see the North-East born teenager in the Championship next season.

Five clubs are said to be interested in the report, namely Middlesbrough, Coventry City, West Brom, Stoke City and of course, the Royals.

With more than half of the squad out of contract in the summer, and the transfer embargo still lingering, these types of loan deals and free agents are the pool in which Reading will have to fish in over the summer window.

Anderson has scored in each of his last three matches for Joey Barton’s side and has played the full 90 minutes in nine of his last 10 appearances- showcasing the level to which they trust the youth international, and the level to which his performances have been.
