A cat belonging to a woman in Woodley may lose her right eye after being ‘attacked’ with bleach.

The surgery would cost around £900, meaning single-mum Nicola Sweet may not be able to take her son on a holiday they had planned together.

Nicola found her feline, named Catcat, sat outside her door in Pearson Way with one side of her face covered in thick bleach.

“I panicked because she looked awful, brought her in and the smell of bleach was overpowering,” she said.

“It was terrifying because you’re trying your best to wash it all off but the more you wash, the more it is lathering up, and you’re freaking out.”

Reading Chronicle:

The cleaning agent has caused an ulcer to grow in Catcat’s eye, which may have be removed on Tuesday at a cost of £900 if its cells can’t regrow.

The nine-year-old cat’s ear and brow has also been burnt by the chemicals.

“I’ve got to take time off work next week to give my cat medication every four hours.”

“It’s costing me a hell of a lot. But she’s part of the family.”

After spending £400 on medication already, Nicola fears she won’t be able to give her 13-year-old boy the holiday they had hoped for.

“It’s tough with all the price hikes, I don’t think we’ll be able to go on holiday.”

Thames Valley Police are investigating the incident. Anyone with information can call 101 or report via the website, quoting reference 43220168042.
