‘REDUCING crime’ is one of Thames Valley Police’s top goals for the coming year, the force has said.

The service has outlined its seven operational and organisation priorities for 2022/2023 and how it will achieve those goals in a new strategic plan.

TVP’s top boss John Campbell said focusing on these priorities would benefit the public.

Two big changes in focus from last year are the new aim of tackling violence against women and girls and improving the public’s trust and confidence in policing.

The four operational priorities are:

  • Reducing crime and incidents by focusing on preventing crime through targeted and effective problem-solving and disrupting organised crime
  • Bringing more offenders to justice by improving the quality and timeliness of investigations
  • Protecting the vulnerable and tackling violence against women and girls by understanding how to reduce harm and risk
  • Improving victim service and public confidence by improving communication and responding to people in need

The three organisational aims are:

  • Valuing the TVP workforce by ensuring the wellbeing, diversity and development of employees
  • Using resources wisely by using them to best effect, targeting priority areas and encouraging sustainability.
  • Maximising the benefits of digital developments by using technology to support all services

John Campbell, Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, said: “This plan sets out the priority areas of activity for both improvement and monitoring for Thames Valley Police in the coming year.

“It identifies the key areas relating to our operational activity that need our greatest efforts but also what we need to focus on from an organisational perspective. These key priorities will help to focus us and to continually do better for the benefit of our public.

“The unpredictable nature of policing means that where circumstances demand, where risk or vulnerability are an issue, we will deal with matters not specifically mentioned for the public good.

“Over the last two years, policing has been operating against the backdrop of unprecedented circumstances throughout the pandemic and in the face of growing demands and challenges.

“To reflect this we have made some changes compared with last year, but much also remains the same.

“One priority area for the coming year will be tackling violence against women and girls; understanding and reducing the risk and harm towards them. We will also be focusing on improving the public’s trust and confidence in policing and how we communicate and respond to victims or people in need.

“Organisationally, we have included a strong people focus with key priorities linked to recruitment, retention and the wellbeing of our staff and officers.

“Much consideration has gone into this plan to reflect the challenges and key areas of focus for the year ahead. The success of our progress against these priorities will be reviewed throughout the year in a number of ways.

“During difficult times the public needs the finest service we can offer and Thames Valley Police continually strive to be the best for our communities every day.”
