STUDENTS, parents and staff at a Caversham school have joined together in support of Ukraine.

Queen Anne’s School, on Henley Road, was led by teacher Daniel Boyes as the group travelled for 31-hours across Europe to the Polish/Ukrainian border with donations.

A Ukrainian charity, which collected the aid at the border, then delivered the packages to those most in need within the Ukrainian cities facing the most hardship.

Elaine Purves, head of Queen Anne’s, said: “The situation in Ukraine is shocking to witness and has left many of us feeling helpless and wanting to do more to support the humanitarian crisis that unfolds each day.

“The whole of the Queen Anne’s community supports Mr Boyes and his colleagues, Paul Belcher, Adam Dandridge and Niall Ward, in this generous and compassionate initiative and we wish them safe travels.”

Mr Boyes said: “The charities in Ukraine that I am in touch with, are desperate for the toiletries, nappies, blankets and other essential items that we are able to provide.

“I am overwhelmed by the response from everyone at Queen Anne’s School, the local churches and members of The Caversham.”

The school also received support from Caversham Golf Club, which raised more than £2,000 towards the cost of travel.
