The Countess of Wessex visits Parenting Special Children in Reading

Her Royal Highness met with families associated with Parenting Special Children, which supports parents with kids who have special needs.

CEO Ruth Pearse said it was an honour to welcome Countess Sophie, alongside Reading Borough Mayor Rachel Eden and Deputy Mayor Ayo Sokale on Wednesday (March 2).

"Our parents and carers appreciated your insight into the challenges and joys that they faced being parents of children with Special Educational Needs and/or disabilities (SEND),” said Ms Pearse “I know that everyone appreciated the time, attention and kindness shown to them.

“I will remember the pure delight on the children's faces for a long time to come, especially my daughter presenting your gift. Special memories to treasure forever."

The Countess played Uno with the children, engaged in colouring activities and helped them make a mosaic.

Since its inception the charity has supported more than 10,000 families.

Partnership Manager and Neurodiverse Children/Young Peoples Lead Tess Eagles said: “This will be a highlight of the year. It was amazing to see the children overcome their anxieties to talk with HRH The Countess of Wessex.

She continued: “We are proud and honoured to have had this opportunity.

“Thank you to the Countess for attending and Reading Borough Council, the Mayoral office and Reading Museum for your support in helping us to create a long lasting memory for Parenting Special Children".
