A vigil in support of Ukraine has been organised in Reading this week.

Set up by the Reading Peace Group, people are being invited to show their support for the anti-war protestors in Ukraine and Russia and to call for an immediate end to the war in Ukraine.

Residents are invited to congregate outside the Town Hall, next to the Queen Victoria statue, from 6pm-7pm on Friday, March 4.

The invasion of Ukraine has impacted millions of lives across the world, with the increased threat of all-out war a terrifying prospect.

On Sunday, February 27, Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated that Ukrainians settled in the UK can bring over immediate family to seek refuge, while many charities have offered ways for Brits to donate to the cause.

Vigal organiser, Peter Burt, believes that it may be some time yet before we see a resolution in Ukraine, stating on the 'Vigil against war in Ukraine Facebook group': “It's clear that the situation in Ukraine will take a long time to resolve so we will be organising regular peace vigils in Reading over the weeks ahead.

The organisers are requesting those that attend meet at the Queen Victoria statue outside the Town Hall, and bring 'banners, placards, peace flags, and candles, and wear warm clothes.'
