Here's how the Reading FC players rated in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Coventry City at the Select Car Leasing Stadium...

Karl Hein - 6.5

Made a terrific save to deny Gyokeres in the opening minutes and another good block to stop O’Hare late on. In between looked calm and composed with the ball and can’t really be faulted for any of the three goals conceded. Much improved on his display at Ashton Gate.

Andy Yiadom - 6

Dependable as usual while adding a goal to his performance. Potentially could have done a bit more going forward but we haven’t really come to expect that from Yiadom.

Michael Morrison - 5.5

A couple of crucial interventions but his lack of pace is highlighted when Reading play such an open uncontrolled game. Asked to cover far too much ground and struggled at times when Coventry broke at Reading - and they broke quite frequently.

Tom Holmes - 5.5

Improved on his Bristol City performance but still a long way from his early-season form. Was solid and positive with the ball in the first half but when his team collapsed, he went with them.

Baba Rahman - 6

Excellent in the first half as he linked up with Junior Hoilett and gave Reading a real threat on the left flank. Not as effective in the second half but decent on both sides of the ball.

Josh Laurent - 5.5

Terrific in the first half as he looked like the Josh Laurent of last season, driving up the pitch and carrying his team on his back with his energy and workrate. Looked much more like the Laurent of the last few months in the second half and gave the ball away for Coventry’s eventual winner.

Andy Rinomhota - 6

Excellent alongside Laurent in the first half. Can always be relied upon for his ridiculous workrate and desire to always make an impact. Hooked for Yakou Meite after 69 minutes.

John Swift - 5.5

Another who was much improved in the first half, Swift pulled the strings when Reading enjoyed their best spells but was much quieter after the break. Nearly scored with a cross-shot in the first half.

Junior Hoilett - 3

Actually had a decent game for 63 minutes but was the culprit of arguably the biggest individual moment of the match. His sending off gave Reading a mountain to climb and when they conceded shortly after, it was just too much for them.

Tom Ince - 6.5

Ince has backed up his fighting words with real desire on the pitch in his first two Royals performances. Always wanted to be positive and drive at the Coventry defence but didn’t always come off. Really should have made it 3-3 in the second half when Yakou Meite played a perfect cross onto his foot. High and wide as Reading created very little of note afterwards.

Lucas Joao - 6

A tough performance to judge. Was largely anonymous but striker’s are paid to score and Joao did that. Reading need more from Joao but to get more they have to figure out how to use him more and get him in the game. Meite’s return should help with that.

Substitutes

Yakou Meite - 8

A brilliant cameo on Meite’s long-awaited return. Looked fit and explosive as he repeatedly beat his man. A few rusty touches late on but a major positive.

Kelvin Abrefa - N/A

Not on the pitch long enough to assess.
