The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust’s Portering team has been recognised as one of the best in the country after being shortlisted for two awards in this year’s MyPorter Awards.

The MyPorter Portering Team of the Year Award is for portering teams that have shown extraordinary resilience, teamwork, and contribution to their trust.

On an individual front, Kenneth McIntyre, has been nominated by his peers for the Newcomer of the Year Award.

Mr McIntyre was nominated for “being a newcomer who makes the whole team stronger, who pushes others to even better work, and who has great ways of communicating with colleagues and patients that bring a smile to everyone’s face.”

Porters in the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust have a wide variety of responsibilities, split into two subdivisions: Clinical, and Non-clinical Portering.

Clinical Portering are responsible for moving everything connected with patient care.

The Non-Clinical Portering team manages the movement of everything not connected to patient care, such as the distribution and collection of linen, meal trolleys, waste, furniture, and post.

Portering Services Coordinator at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, Jose Atunes, said: "“All the portering teams play a vital role in keeping the Trust running smoothly.

"They are integral to the safety of transferred patients, the emergency response time and the quality of care delivered to our patients."

The Awards will be held at The Dickens Inn, London, on 24 February 2022 in a live ceremony celebrating the contribution and hard work of porters in this past year.
