Preparation works have begun on transforming land at a science park near Reading into ‘the Hollywood of the UK’.

Impressive plans to transform Thames Valley Science Park into a ‘creative media hub’ for film and TV production were approved in October last year.

Now, builders at Shinfield Studios are setting to work to make the studio designs a reality.

Photos from Bob Brooks, 70, from Lower Earley, show earth works being undertaken and hoardings put up around the site to provide some privacy and secure the build site from intruders.

One photo shows lime coloured modular buildings which appear to be used by the construction crew.

Last December, it was confirmed that Disney will be the first clients to use Shinfield Studios once some of the stages are completed ready for use this year.

The construction of Shinfield Studios is being undertaken in phases.

So far,  four sound stages have already been constructed, with some of the completed stage buildings visible in Mr Brooks’ photos.

It is hoped that all of the 18 new stages will be completed  in 2024.

Shinfield Studios joint managing director Nick Smith said: “Shinfield Studios has a US production currently using Phase 1 and that we have started earthworks for Phase 2 and expect to have another two stages on line at the end of this year and 7 opening across 2023.

“Alongside the four stages already constructed, we expect another two stages to open at the end of this year, seven in 2023 and the completion of the entire 18 stage facility in 2024.”

Thames Valley Science Park which Shinfield Studios is located within is owned by the University of Reading.

The team behind Shinfield Studios won permission to build four sound stages and four workshops on a temporary basis in March 2021.

But following the planning approval in October last year, the studios will be made permanent.
