Reading FC manager Veljko Paunovic declined to name a new permanent Royals captain after Liam Moore was surprisingly stripped of the honour last weekend.

Since the shock announcement which came following the 2-1 defeat to Middlesbrough, 33-year old defender Micahel Morrison has taken the armband for the losses to Luton Town and Huddersfield Town.

But while it appears Morrison will keep the armband for the forseeable future - fitness and health permitting - Paunovic opted not to officially name him the new captain.

"It’s a fluid situation," the Serbian said in the wake of Saturday's 4-3 defeat to the Terriers. "But definitely he (Morrison) is the next one who is actually capable of leading the team.

"Because he knows everything about this team, he knows the environment. He knows the positives and negatives we have and he knows how to deal with that."

Morrison was sidelined for 17 games with a knee injury before returning on Wednesday night against Luton. He immediately regained his spot in the centre of Reading's defence, scoring on Saturday to make it 3-3 in the ultimately unssuccessful clash with Huddersfield.

The former Birmingham man has now made ten appearances for the Royals this season, captaining the team on three occasions.

Reading now have a full week to recover and prepare for their next game, when they head to west London to face QPR this coming Saturday.
