COVID cases are spreading rapidly across Berkshire as Boris Johnson sticks with Plan B restrictions in a bid to ‘ride out’ the Omicron variant without a lockdown.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 218,705 over the period, to 13,641,520.

The infection rate has also continued to grow, with Berkshire recording 1,923 new cases on January 4 - the latest data available.

The latest seven-day infection rate across Berkshire, based on the seven days up to December 30, has risen to 1,455.4 from 1,208 cases per 100,000 population on Thursday, December 22 – the highest figure at any stage of the pandemic.

The area reporting the highest Coronavirus rate in Berkshire for the seven days from December 24 to 30 is Owlsmoor & Broadmoor in Bracknell Forest, where the figure is 2,203.2.

Two other areas in the borough area recording high rates with Sandhurst at 1,942.2 and Wick Hill with 1,932.5.

Windsor and Maidenhead isn't far off that level with Dedworth reporting infection rates of 1,905.5 per 100,000.
