Reading Football Club provided the elderly in Reading care homes with food parcels after the Christmas festivities.

Social Inclusion manager, Richard Witt, and Community Trust manager, Dave Evans, took turkey wellingtons, sausage rolls, pies, and sandwiches to homes including Shinfield View and Magnolia House.

This comes days after the club delivered clothes and biscuits to new-born babies and their families at the Royal Berkshire Hospital on Christmas Day.

A spokesperson for one of the homes, Magnolia House, said: “We are very grateful to the players and staff of Reading FC for their generosity and support to their local community.

“We would like to wish them all a very Happy New Year and the best of luck for the rest of the season.”

Similarly, the general manager of Shinfield View, Jodie Whatmore, said: “We would like to thank Reading FC for their kind donations today, they have supported the community all throughout the pandemic.

“The staff really appreciated their donations, and they were thoroughly enjoyed, a very kind gesture.”

Unfortunately for Royal supporters the team had been unable to play a match over the festive period due to an outbreak of Covid-19 within the squad.

The next match is scheduled to be at home to Derby County on Bank Holiday Monday at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
