Stretching your legs on Boxing Day after you've indulged a bit too much the day before is a time-honoured tradition in Berkshire and beyond.

It's an ideal time to wrap up in your new winter warmers and go out and get some fresh air.

Boxing Day walks in Berkshire

Greenham Control Tower

Walk through history this Boxing Day with a visit to this 1950's Military Control Tower.

It has been restored into a volunteer-run visitor centre and community cafe with an observation deck and stunning views over the Newbury countryside.

One visitor took to TripAdvisor to share their experience of the site and its walks: "Really worth visiting this restored airfield control tower with its observation deck.

"Valuable insight into the history of a former USAF base. Well informed volunteers to talk to and exhibition to view.

"Lots of open space for walks and an on-site cafe. Worth making a charitable donation."

The Long Walk

The Long Walk at Winsor Great Park should be on your to-do list this festive season if it's not already.

Start at the George IV Gateway at Windsor Castle and end up at the striking Copper Horse statue in this three-mile-long tree-lined stroll.

Discover all about its history and you can even try to spot some Red Deer since the 500 of them roam freely around the Deer Park enclosure.

One walker wrote on the reviewing site: "A treasure to find!

"Very welcoming, including for our dog, the team were great.

"Great food, good value, and very much a personal experience in what is becoming a very touristy town. Definitely recommended."

Balmore Walk

Get some fresh air after a little too much indulging on Christmas day with a stroll in Balmore park.

The 2.15 acres looks over Caversham and there are also great views over Reading from Early to Prospect Park.

Rating it 5*, one visitor shared their experience on TripAdvisor: "This is a lovely area for regular walkers, dog walkers and those taking some time out. It's a very friendly place.

"There is seating throughout the area and litter bins. It's a very pleasant natural area."

Eton Walkway

Ranked as the third best thing to do in Eton, a wander along the Eton walkway is just the thing to blow the cobwebs away.

TripAdvisor recommends you should leave yourself around one to two hours to take in the sights.

One walker gave the walkway a 5* rating and left this glowing review: "Always wanted to go to Windsor and walk over the bridge to Eton.

"Such a quaint place with lovely shops, hanging baskets of flowers and eateries. Walked to the end of the street and then back down the other side, lovely."

Christchurch Meadows

If you live around Reading, why not stretch your legs at the Christchurch Meadows on Boxing Day this year?

Ranked in the top 40 things to do in Reading, a wintery stroll in the fresh air might do us all some good.

Rating it 5*, one TripAdvisor user posted: "It is a huge green area and there is a big playing area for kids. Kids can involve in various activities.

"We can enjoy the view of the river Thames with swans.

"Can have a relaxing time there or can play with your kids, either of the options are possible."
