A fault in the electricity network has caused parts of Reading to lose power.

The unplanned outage affects 64 homes in Lower Earley, according to Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).

An engineer was sent to the site after the outage was reported at 5.10am, but power is not expected to be restored before 2.30pm.

A spokesperson from SSEN said: “We would like to apologise to our customers in Lower Earley who have been affected by this fault on our local network and assure them our engineers are doing all they can to restore supplies as safely and as quickly as possible.”

The power cut impacts people in the RG6 postcode area, including parts of Gipsy Lane, Meadow Road, Roman Way, Markby Close and Saleby Close.
