TWO men have been arrested after a man was beaten up with a baseball bat during a fight at a popular local pub.
The incident occurred at The Sportsman on Shinfield Road, Reading at around 11pm last night (December 10).
Police said the incident did not involve a stabbing following speculation this was the case on social media.
The victim suffered head injuries as a result of the baseball bat attack.
He was taken to hospital but his injuries are thought not to be life-threatening.
Two men, aged 20 and 25 from Reading, are in police custody after being arrested.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a fight in progress at The Sportsman Public House in Shinfield Road, Reading, at 11.05pm last night (10/12).
“On arrival, one man, aged in his twenties, had been assaulted with a baseball bat and sustained head injuries.
“He has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Two men, aged 20 and 25, from Reading, have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and they remain in police custody.

“To clarify, we are aware of some public reports suggesting that this was a stabbing incident. This is categorically not correct.
“A scene-watch is currently in place, but no details of when this is likely to be lifted at this stage.”
