MP Matt Rodda has urged anyone with information to come forward following the fatal stabbing of a 77-year-old man in Reading.

David Allen died in a house on Elgar Road from shock and haemorrhage as a result of a stab wound to his chest, according to a post-mortem examination.

A 37-year-old man from Reading was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of murder.

Rodda, MP for Reading East, made a statement on his Facebook page after the news broke on Thursday, calling for residents to aid police in their murder investigation.

“I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of the victim in this terrible and dreadful incident,” he wrote.

“Thames Valley Police have now launched an investigation and I would ask anyone who has any information on this to contact the police.”

Thames Valley Police were called to Elgar Road on Wednesday at around 8.10pm when Mr Allen’s body was found.

A scene watch was put in place and though much of the cordon has been removed, some sections remained as of this morning (Saturday).

Information from the night of the incident can be submitted to police by calling 101 quoting reference 1958 of December 1.

Police have asked anyone who was driving in the area to check their dash-cam footage.
