Cakes have been “flying off the shelves” at Reading’s newest bakery since it opened last month.
One sweet treat in particular led Wenzels director Lisa Hutcheson to think “everybody in Reading seems to have a sweet tooth.”
The bakers couldn’t make enough vegan Biscoff Croisnuts, a cross between a doughnut and a croissant, in their first week.
“It’s been a really busy shop, we’re feeling positive. I think the location is great and so far so good,” said Lisa.
“The customers have said ‘it’s nice to have you hear, it’s nice to see a bakers.’ I don’t think there’s anything like it around that area.
“There has been lots of hype from school kids getting treats on their way home.”
The bakery's handmade cupcake trios are also proving popular.
With Christmas on the horizon, Wenzel’s, in Shepherds Hill, are offering festive Croisnuts in raspberry and caramel flavours and adorned in snowmen and reindeer edible decorations.
“Yesterday we also launched our Christmas rum truffles and they always go very well.”
Established as a family run bakery in 1975, the Reading shop is the 84th the brand has launched.
“The building is a really good location. It has its own parking which means it’s really accommodating for customers.”
