A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found inside a property in Reading.

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 70s was found in Elgar Road.

Thames Valley Police were called to the property at just after 8.10pm on Wednesday, December 1.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 37-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Tragically, following a call to an address in Elgar Road, a body has been located and a murder investigation has been launched.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation, but an arrest has been made in connection with it.

“Formal identification has not taken place, but the victim’s next of kin have been notified and are being offered support by specially trained officers.

“My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends."

A scene watch is currently in place with a number of police officers at the scene carrying out investigations. 

Officers also reassured residents to speak to officers at the scene if they have any concerns.

Adding: “Understandably, this incident will cause great concern in the local community, but at this early stage of our investigation, we do not believe there is a wider risk to the public and believe that the victim and offender are known to each other."

Police are also appealing for information from the night of the incident asking people to contact Thames Valley Police on 1010 quoting reference 1958 of 1 December.

Anyone who was driving in the area is asked to check dash-cam footage.
