A derelict 400-year-old cottages is at auction for £600,000 next week – but it’s too dangerous to look inside.

Elizabeth Cottage overlooking Crookham Common, Thatcham, has been uninhabited for more than a decade, gradually becoming overrun by the vegetation surrounding it.

The four-bedroom cottage with original beams and fireplaces will go under the hammer at Auction House Sussex on November 23.

Auction House Sussex auctioneer Adam Hinchliffe said, “Properties like this rarely come onto the market. This is in an exquisite location backing onto Crookham Common.

“It’s one of the last chances before Christmas to buy a house in 2021. There has been plenty of interest in Elizabeth Cottage with potential buyers downloading legal packs from our website, so it’ll be interesting to see who is really up for such a wonderful project.”
