THERE are some great places to eat in our town centre.

From the popular chains we’ve all come to know and love at The Oracle, to the greasy spoons and local sandwich shops that have been here for ages, to the delicious indie options at Blue Collar’s food market… there’s something for everyone.

But Reading has welcomed a number of food-based newcomers in recent months and several more eateries are set to open in the coming weeks, too.

Here’s a look at the new additions in our town.

Gordon Ramsay Street Burger

What is it? As it says on the tin -- delicious burgers endorsed by everyone’s favourite TV chef, Gordon Ramsay.

Where is it? Riverside, The Oracle, in between Wagamama and Zizzis.

Is it open yet? Yes, it opened in late September.

Jollibee

What is it? A Filipino fast food chain that serves fried chicken, burgers and...spaghetti all rolled into one.

Where is it? Broad Street

Is it open yet? Yes -- it opened in early September and has been a hit with locals.

What else should I know? “To put it in simple terms, Jollibee is Asia's answer to KFC but with a spicy and sticky twist to its crispy chicken.” Read our reporter’s full review here

Chipstar

What is it? A Dutch-style chip shop (meaning they are fried twice for crunchy texture). Chips can be personalised with a range of sauces and toppings.

Where is it? Broad Street

Is it open yet? No, but the shop is being kitted out and looks like it’s nearly ready. A sign on the door says it will open in December.

The Food Court

What is it? A one-stop shop serving a range of different cuisines from across the globe.

Where is it? Oxford Road opposite Broad Street mall

Is it open yet? No, but shopfront developments and a peak inside suggest it is nearly ready.

What else should I know? It wasn’t always going to be a food court…

Smokin’ Buns and Saucy Chicks

What is it? The restaurants offer a range of burgers and chicken dishes as well as ‘dirty milkshakes’ like Oreo, Kinder Bueno and Ferrero Rocher milkshakes.

Where is it? St Mary’s Butts, where the old Pizza Express used to be based.

What else should I know? The business hopes to compete with UberEats and Deliveroo, according to their mission statement.

Jack’s

What is it? We’re not quite sure -- we’re told to ‘be excited’ but there is limited information on what Jack’s actually is!

Where is it? Friar Street
