1. Newbury man jailed for 'horrific' abuse of woman

A man who lined up a woman and shot at her with an air rifle, rubbed her face in dog poo and forced her to cut her legs with tweezers in almost four years of “horrific” abuse was jailed for more than five years on October 14.

Carl Vasey, of The Oaks, Newbury, also subjected the woman to physical, mental abuse including slapping, punching, kicking, spitting and sending her ‘degrading’ emails.

2. Reading man jailed for sexual abuse of two young girls

A judge refused to give details of a serial sex offender’s vile abuse of two young girls as it was ‘clear’ he would get ‘sexual excitement’ recounting his shocking crimes.

A court heard how Lester Bell, 70 from Reading, would likely serve the rest of his life in jail after he was sentenced to a minimum of 16 years behind bars for the non-recent sexual abuse of the two survivors.

3. Reading man jailed after punch-up at Petrol Station

A man was told he was lucky not to be sent down for manslaughter after he was jailed for knocking a man out cold in a punch-up outside a petrol station.

Gary Cresswell, of Sandringham Way, Calcot, left the man unconscious after knocking him out and the victim would not wake up for another two weeks after he went into a coma.

4. Burglar who attacked cyclist and stole petrol from garage is jailed

A man has been jailed for burglary conspiracy after breaking into a house, attacking a cyclist and stealing fuel from a garage - all on the same day.

Jimmy Cash, 30, of Crown Close, Bishops Cleeve, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to burgle, one count of making off without payment and one count of assault in a hearing at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, October 21.

It comes after Cash, along with others, burgled a house in Caversham, Reading on August 4.

5. Reading terrorist Khairi Saadallah refused sentence appeal

One of the UK’s top courts has thrown out an appeal to reduce the sentence of the terrorist who murdered three people in Forbury Gardens last year.

Khairi Saadallah, 27, who fatally stabbed James Furlong, Joseph Ritchie-Bennett and David Wails in June 2020, launched a three-pronged appeal against the whole life sentence he was given in January 2021.
