Reading manager Veljko Paunovic was left ruing his side's missed chances after the Royals missed out on the chance to stop Bournemouth's unbeaten run.

The boss praised his side's performance despite their 2-0 loss to the Cherries.

Goals from Dominic Solanke and Jamal Lowe consigned Reading to their third straight defeat after striker George Puscas missed two great opportunities.

Here's what the Reading manager said after his team's defeat.

On the performance

"We had great opportunities. We looked in control. We had opportunities we didn't convert.

"[The first goal] hurt us.

"We responded properly and had initiative, which proves again the good mentality of the team and the spirit to fight against teams like Bournemouth at the top of the table.

"The first opportunity was ours. Unfortunately, we missed that one and out of nothing we conceded a goal.

"We responded to that with a lot of the ball in the middle of the park. That second goal did have much more repercussions towards us."

On Bournemouth

"Bournemouth have a good squad, they have quality, experience and good coaching staff.

"Their confidence is huge.

"The game today was very even, so every time we confront teams that are top of the table, usually they will slip.

"I wish we were the team that stopped their fantastic form today but it was not to be."

On misfiring striker George Puscas

"He worked very hard today. We've got to support him.

"We've got to keep working on his finishing, and we believe it will come."

On only making one change five minutes before the end of the game

"We try with those who we think are ready.

"We have in our U23s the same injury as in our first team because we push them too soon for something they are not ready for.

"We know who is ready and who is not ready.

"It could be very dangerous for their career and for the team."

On whether he was worried about his team's workload

"Absolutely.

"We will look to save the group as much as we can", he continued.

"We will use everything in our power to get them ready."

On whether the first goal was because of zonal marking

"The defence is a very delicate thing. If you lose your focus and lose the attitude, they can surprise you.

"I know my team. Last year, we conceded zero goals from set pieces. But there are many things that get involved.

"This team had a very good display today. But we didn't take our opportunities.

"We conceded a goal from a set-piece which really pisses me off.

"We need a bit more respect and acknowledgement I think.

"You have to look at the hard work they are putting in."
