A car park just south of the town centre could be flattened and replaced with four buildings containing 46 homes.

Plans have been submitted to Reading Borough Council (RBC) by Irongate Property to demolish the car park and storage building on 9 Upper Crown Street and build apartments on the land.

As well having a car park, the current building is also home to storage company Secure Records & Data Management.

There would be four town-houses, 17 one-bed flats, 10 two-bed apartments and 15 three-bed flats spread across the four buildings.

Parking would be provided in the basement, with some spaces allocated to surrounding residents as per the current arrangement.

There would also be bin storage in the basement a substation to replace the current ones at the site.

The existing ramp along the east side of the site’s boundary would be retained to provide access to this lower level.

One building would be a terrace of four three-bed town houses. Each unit would be self contained and have its own front door.

Each townhouse would have a private garden.

Buildings two and three would be similar to each other in shape, mass and layout and provide a mix of one, two and three-bed apartments.

Each flat would have its own small balcony.

Building four would also have a mix of one, two and three-bed apartments and private balconies but would have a different layout due to its location on the site boundary.
