Reading suffered their second defeat in four days losing 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Two quickfire goals were enough for the home side to claim all three points and move above the Royals in the table.

Rothwell’s mazy run in the 62nd minute saw him beat a man in the box and strike the ball against the post into the path of Gallagher who was on hand to tap in.

Three minutes later Tyrhys Dolan picked up the ball on the left-hand side where he skipped past Andy Yiadom and placed a superb curling effort into the far corner.

In between the two goals Reading almost grabbed an equaliser through Puscas who nearly got on the end of Ovie Ejaria's cross from the left but he couldn't quite reach it.

Rovers should have had a third after Brereton Diaz headed pullback into the path of Van Hecke and the centre-back somehow put it wide from five yards out.

Veljko Paunović men could only produce two shots on target throughout the 90 minutes neither causing Thomas Kaminski any trouble.

The first half was uneventful with the teams going into the break at 0-0 with either side unable to test the keepers.

A mazy run from Baba Rahmen down the left-hand side in the 18th minute saw him get the better of Ryan but his effort was high and wide.

The Royals had a soft-hearted penalty shout a minute later as Josh Laurent went down in the box under the challenge from Daniel Ayala but the claims were waved away by the referee.

Reading kept the pressure up and good ball from the left from Ejaria  Andy Yiadom meets it at the far post but his header is straight at the goalkeeper.

Rovers were close to taking the lead through a swift counterattack that ended with Sam Gallagher hitting the post from a curling effort with his right foot.
