The Met Office has released a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering central and southern parts of the UK - including Reading.

The national weather service has warned that there will be a brief period of heavy rain, thunderstorms and very gusty winds that may cause some disruption on Wednesday (October 20) morning.

The yellow warning is in place from 4am on Wednesday untl 12pm.

The area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move quickly eastwards across Wales and southwestern England into parts of central, southern and eastern England during the morning.

While many areas will see spells of rain, some places will be affected by thunderstorms which will bring heavy rain, lightning, and strong, gusty winds with hail.

The Met Office expects gusts to peak at 40-50 mph but much stronger winds are possible here and there.

There could potentially be some damage to some structures.

What to expect from the Met Office's weather warning

The Met Office has warned that there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly.

There could also be some damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

They have also said that there is a small chance of damage to trees by strong and gusty winds.

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services and there is a potential of power cuts to some homes and businesses.
