IF you have driven on the M27 over the past couple of years you are likely to have comes across one of the temporary speed limits in place on the motorway.

Upgrading junctions 4-11 of the M27 to make it a smart motorway has meant temporary speed limits of 50 and 60mph have been enforced on the road as works progress.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been used to monitor the average speed of traffic over sections of the road.

The temporary speed limits are legally enforceable, meaning drivers who exceed this top speed are liable to penalties -- and drivers often do pay the price.

The motorway is located in the middle of Hampshire which means it isn’t particularly close to the Royal county.

But court filings show there are some Berkshire motorists who have been in court for breaking the temporary speed limit on the M27 and where they got caught.

James Peard

Wokingham man James Peard was fined £66 for breaking the 50mph M27 speed limit on July 8, 2020.

The 32-year-old, of Dodsells Well, was clocked at 61mph and was caught out on the Eastbound carriageway.

He was given three points on his licence and made to pay a £34 victim surcharge, too.

Ifran Amirdad

42-year-old Amirdad, of Chilcombe Way, Reading, was going 60mph on the M27 on December 17, 2020.
