THE Reading Chronicle has launched its Dog of the Month feature with the help from Dogs Trust Newbury.

Each month, we appeal to dog lovers who are considering adopting a dog and giving it the forever home it’s been eagerly waiting for.

This month’s Dog of the Month is four-year-old ex-racing Greyhound, Poppy.

She’s a sensitive girl, looking for a quiet home with patient new owners.

Jenny Hopkins, Dogs Trust Newbury Rehoming Centre Assistant Manager, said: "Poppy is a real sweetheart. Despite finding things a bit overwhelming, she is coming out of her shell and making friends with her canine carers – she's even starting to enjoy snuggles with her favourite people.

Reading Chronicle: Dog of the month in Newbury

“She’s looking for a home with calm and patient new owners who’ll be prepared to take things at her pace whilst she finds her feet. Her new family will need to meet her multiple times, both at the centre and during visits to her new home, to get to know her and build up a bond.

“Poppy thrives in the company of other dogs so it would be great for her to have a similar-sized canine companion who can help her settle in. She’d also be able to live with children aged 14 and above who will give her the time and space she needs.”

If you think you could give Poppy the forever home she is looking for, please go to www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming to start the virtual adoption process.

Dogs Trust Newbury holds Information Days every Sunday. If you would like to take a look around the centre, meet members of the team and see the dogs spending time with their canine carers, please go to www.dogstrust.org.uk/ourcentres to book a place.
