1. 'Severe strain': GP surgery pauses appointments after 900 calls per day
A Reading GP surgery will not be offering routine appointments due to an ‘unprecedented’ surge in demand.
Receptionists at Tilehurst Surgery, in Tylers Rest, are taking almost 900 calls a day - a 40 per cent increase in the last two weeks.

A Reading councillor called for action over a ‘drug dealing hub’ in the town.
Kentwood Hill recycling point is a ‘drug menace’, with criminals using the layby and wooded area to make illegal exchanges, according to Cllr Raj Singh.

3. Fuel thief who stole from petrol stations arrested near Reading
A thief who stole fuel from petrol stations on eight separate occasions was arrested near Reading.
On Friday, Thames Valley Police stopped a driver in Winnersh who had stolen fuel multiple times, and who also tested positive for cocaine use.

4. Man talked down from Metro Bank roof at Reading Mall
On Monday, police confirmed a man lying on the edge of the roof of Metro Bank was brought down safely.
Police cordoned off the bank in St Mary’s Butts and the adjacent Taco Bell at around 1pm on Friday, September 24.

5. Councillor slams 'ulterior motive' behind car park changes
A council insider slammed what he called an ‘ulterior motive’ behind proposed changes to car parks in Wokingham, Woodley, and Earley.
Notices about proposed changes to car park rules in Wokingham Borough caused mass confusion on social media over the possibility that charges could be increased in the borough’s car parks.
