Reading FC manager Veljko Paunovic was pleased with his teams display after grinding out a narrow 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The game was decided by a second half strike from Alen Halilovic, who bundled the ball past Lumley to secure a third straight win for Reading.

Speaking on the performance post-match, Paunovic said: "We always look to put a team out there that can compete and win.

"There's always an idea behind who is selected for the team and out there.

"Today, we're satisfied because the team showed great spirit given the circumstances.

"Having players who are coachable, intelligent and want to step into any role, is a pleasure to work with.

"I have always told Josh (Laurent) he can do that job (at centre-back).

"I think he's surprised at how well he has done! It's not easy to switch positions.

"I'm very fortunate to work with this group of people."

The Royals boss also was full of praise for Halilovic after the midfielder produced another strong display in the Royals midfield.

"Our midfield is still going to get better.

"We have a lot of players who haven't played together, there has been a immediate adjustment.

"I'm very happy for Alen. He's gelled well with the team on and off the field.

"You can tell by the smile on his face he's happy here.

"He's showing glimpses of his huge talent.

"We believe there is more to come."

The Royals boss also confirmed that Scott Dann is in the 'final stages' of his training regime as he aims to build full match fitness.
