SEEING your 19-year-old son perform in front of dozens of adoring fans at one of the biggest music festivals in the country -- it’s not something many of us can say we’ve experienced!

But that was the case for Fiona and Yinka yesterday after they watched their son Tayo Sound perform at Reading Festival.

Tayo, from Tilehurst, excited a lively crowd at the BBC Introducing stage on the first day of the festival.

His performance came after years of busking on the street in Reading and across Berkshire.

And for parents Fiona and Yinka, who were in the crowd, seeing their son take to the stage at such a big event was a moment to remember.

His father, Yinka, told the Chronicle: “I’m very proud of him, he’s worked really hard for this.

“It’s all his own hard work, he writes all his own songs, and he really believed this is what he wanted to do with his life and it really paid off for him.”

His mother, Fiona, added: “I'm really, really proud.

“It’s really exciting because I used to take him busking and I remember just sitting nearby, making sure he was okay as he was only 14.

“People always used to come and say to him ‘you’ll be at the real festival’ and now he’s really here!”

Yinka added: “We’ve had all the tears in the past. He’s a really lovely kid.

“He would have been feeling humbled [on stage].”

Tayo Sound performed at the BBC Introducing stage, which is opposite the Main Stage West within the Reading Festival arena.

Perhaps one day Fiona and Yinka will see Tayo perform at Reading Festival’s main stage.

One thing is for certain -- the future is bright for Tayo Sound.
