Festivals are back and that means moshing is back, too. 

For those unfamiliar with festival lingo, moshing is the act of dancing to music and deliberately colliding with other dancers. 

Mosh-pits, therefore, get very intimate, hot and sweaty very quickly.

Being in a mosh-pit is certainly a different experience from the social distancing we have all had to adhere to over the past 18 months -- there’s certainly no social distancing in a mosh pit. 

Given COVID is still spreading, some might opt to shy away from mosh pits.

But not for one raver.

Tristan Chamberlain, 24 from Hampshire, (literally) jumped right in at Don Broco’s secret set at The Lock Up on Friday.

He told us why he got involved. 

“It was a nice refreshing change after almost two years of not going to festivals, to be in a mosh pit again and being with people. 

“It just felt normal, no worries at all. 

Reading Chronicle:

“Everybody’s enjoying it, everybody’s there for the same thing, enjoying the same thing and it’s all a bit of a laugh. 

“It’s hot, it’s sweaty, there are a lot of people pushing around, but it’s always good fun. 

“There are cups going all over the shop, people throwing stuff around, but no one is trying to cause you any harm so you don’t get hurt.”

Asked if he was concerned about the risk of getting COVID, he added: “A bit earlier on, yeah, but being double-jabbed and stuff I wasn’t really bothered. 

“If it’s going to happen it’s going to happen. 

“You’ve got to move on at some point, this was just a bit of a laugh.”
