RAIN is expected to batter certain areas in the the county this afternoon as forecasters have put out a yellow weather warning.

The warning covers much of the south of England reach across West Berkshire, Reading, Wokingham, and Maidenhead - skimming past Slough and Windsor.

The warning details that driving conditions may be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

Potential delays to train services, some short term loss of power and other services is possible, with possible damage due to lightning strikes, and flooding of a few homes and businesses could occur.

The MetOffice said: "Many places missing the worst, but heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause some transport disruption and perhaps flooding."

The warning is in place from 12pm today until 10pm tonight. No further warnings have been issued for this weekend or the following week.
