LAST month saw scorching temperatures, torrential rain and thunder.

With it being the last month of summer, we spoke to the Met Office to find out what August has in store for us.

The weather forecasters have been giving details on how they think the month will pan out. And it doesn't sound that great.

Here's what the Met Office said:

Stephen Dixon said: "This first week will see unsettled conditions and persistent rain on Thursday and Friday. This will stay dominant through to the weekend for Berkshire. There will be persistent heavy rain on Saturday, slightly clearing into next week.

"Looking further ahead, there is more settled weather not particularly warm and slightly dry.

"Into the next couple of weeks in the south, the weather forecast becomes less specific to areas but there will be unsettled weather, with unsettled rain and spells of sunshine."

On the subject of heatwaves, the local Met Office forecaster said he is 'not confident' in what the specific weather conditions will be but it will be "warmer than average".

He said: "Longer term is harder to say but there are signs at the moment showing dry, warmer weather and signals of higher pressure through the middle of August.

"The temperature will be slightly warmer and could be above average. For a heatwave in Berkshire, the temperature needs to reach 27C for three days running. There is a chance of warm weather above average, the average in England being 20C - that doesn't mean it moves into heatwave criteria."
