Former Royals striker Simon Cox has reacted to the news that the Madejski Stadium will be renamed.

The club confirmed today that the main sponsor's Select Car Leasing will sponsor the stadium for the next ten seasons.

For the first time since the move to the ground in 1998, the stadium will no longer be named in honour of former Reading FC chairman Sir John Madejski.

The East Stand will be renamed in honour of Madejski.

Speaking on Twitter, Cox reacted positively to the news, saying the club had made a good decision.

"I personally love this. The fact that the naming rights of the stadium and the main front sponsor of the shirts is owned by a local business who are Reading fans is massive.

"Could easily gone to foreign investors but no.

"This is what Reading FC has been about for years.

"It’s a sign of the times sadly it brings in needed revenue to spend on players to make the club competitive.

"Would you rather it was sold to a foreign company with no ties to the club or a local business who are Reading Fans?

"JM [John Madejski] has been great for Reading no one can dispute that."
