A MAN tried to slash his victim with a knife on a secluded island next to the river in Reading.

At about 10am on Wednesday, June 9, police said the attacker aggressively approached a man on View Island in Reading.

The offender asked the 36-year-old his name before accusing him of having carried out historic offences.

He then showed a knife and attempted to slash the victim.

Police said he missed but managed to cut the victim’s knee before running off in the direction of Mill Road.

The victim did not require hospital treatment.

The offender is described as a white man, around 36-years-old and medium to slim build.

He spoke with a deep voice and was wearing a surgical face mask at the time of the incident.

He was also wearing a grey hooded top with a white NIKE tick logo on the left hand chest area, blue jeans and dark shoes.

Investigating officer PC Graham Ammundsen of the Incident & Crime Response Team based at Reading police station said: “We urge anyone who might have seen or heard this incident to contact us.

“Thames Valley Police takes all assaults seriously. With your help, we may be able to bring the offender to justice.
