After a substantial decline, Covid19 cases are on the rise again in Powys, the latest figures show.

However case rates remain low for the time being, and there has been very little increase in either hospitalisations or deaths over the latest measurement period.

There were 37 cases in the period between June 15 and June 21, up 23 compared to the previous week. The case rate is 28 cases per 100,000 people, below the national average of 29.

Scientists now put the reproductive rate (R rate) at 1.1 to 1.4 in Wales.

The total number of cases in Powys now stands at 4275 total cases to June 25, with 269 Coronavirus related deaths registered.

Latest figures show 92% of the county has now had it's first dose, while 79% have now received two doses of a vaccine.

Meanwhile Powys Teaching Health Board is reminding members of the public without symptoms that they can take advantage of a walk-in testing centre in Newtown for the remainder of this week.

Anyone living, working and studying in the Newtown area can drop in to the Park Street Day Centre between 10am and 6pm, seven days a week, for a free test.

"Coronavirus cases in Powys are rising again, and the Delta variant is now the dominant strain in Wales," said a spokesperson.

"Testing people without symptoms is a useful tool to identify any new variants and help us stop them in their tracks.

"Testing will continue to be vital in preventing future waves of coronavirus, and in preventing further pandemics. So, our experience of running an asymptomatic testing centre in Newtown will also play a vital role in our preparedness for the future. It will mean that we have a tried and tested model of community testing that we can put in place quickly if we face outbreaks in future."

People with symptoms should continue to book a test at testing centres across Powys or request a test by post by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 119.
