A fourth School Street is set to be approved in Reading, outside three schools.

Reading Borough Council (RBC) will next week vote on whether to approve a School Street on Crescent Road outside Maiden Erlegh, Alfred Sutton and UTC Reading.

Three School Streets have already gone live, at Park Lane Primary (Junior School), Wilson Primary School and Thameside Primary School.

Officers have recommended the council approve the plan which would see Crescent Road School closing to most motor vehicles from 8.15am to 9am in the morning 2.45pm to 3.30pm in the afternoon, from Monday-Friday during term time only.

The School Street would initially be in place for a six-month trial period (which can be extended to 18 months) and will be on Crescent Road only, between Wokingham Road and Bulmershe Road.

If there are no objections after the trial period, the School Street will become permanent.

If there are objections, a committee will decide whether to make the road restriction permanent.

The schools held a public consultation on the Crescent Road plans with more than 150 residents responding.

As a result of concerns raised by some residents, the impact of the School Street on neighbouring roads will be monitored during the trial period.

Officers have reported positive feedback from the school community and local residents about the Park Lane School Street, which went live in April, while the two other School Streets were launched earlier this month.
