THESE four people are the latest to have been sentenced in court for stalking and/or harassment across Berkshire.

1. SHAUN PHELAN

Shaun Phelan, aged 30, of Drovers Way, Bracknell, admitted to stalking without fear/alarm/distress in Bracknell Between October 9, 2019 and January 15, 2020 in Slough Magistrates Court.

He was found to have threatened to damage her vehicle, attended her address, sent her letters and sent her messages via third parties.

On February 19, 2021, Phelan was committed to prison for 14 weeks suspended for 24 months. This was due to the severity of the offence, and was required to participate in a Rehability ation Activity Requirement.

Furthermore, Phelan was ordered to perform 120 hours of unpaid work. A restraining order was made, and he was ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £350 court costs.  

 

2. NEIL PHILLIPS

NEIL PHILLIPS, aged 52, of Glen Avenue, Ashford, Surrey, admitted stalking involving serious harm/distress in Slough between August 4, 2018 and April 9, 2020 in Reading Magistrates Court.

He was found to have made unwanted contact via letters, 'countless' emails, leaving notes on the victim's car at their place of work, their gym, their home address and making random approaches and following his victim in public places.   

On April 22, 2021, Phillips was committed to prison for 16 weeks susepnded for 24 months due to the severity of his offences. The sentence was suspended due to his guilty plea, his realistic prospect of rehabilitation, and caring responsibilities. 

He was ordered to take part in a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and was ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 court costs. A restraining order was also made.

3. NATHAN OCHILTREE

NATHAN OCHILTREE, 23, of Urquart Road, Thatcham, West Berkshire, admitted assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm and assault by beating of an emergency worker, of which actviated a suspended sentence for stalking without fear/alarm distress, and activated a suspended sentence for assault by beating in Reading Magistrates Court on April 26, 2021.

Ochiltree admitted assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm in Newbury on April 24, 2021. He also admitted to assaulting a police officer by beating in Newbury on April 24, 2021.    

This activated a suspended sentence made on July 5, 2019, for stalking without fear/alarm/distress in Newbury between April 20, 2019 and June 13, 2019, by 'constantly' called, messaged and attended his victim's place of residence, from which he was banned from doing so.

It also activated a suspended sentence order made  on July 5, 2019, for assault by beating in Newbury on March 30, 2019.

Ochiltree was committed to prison for a total of 38 weeks due to his record of previous offending. A restraiing order was made and he was ordered to pay £100 compensation. 

    

4. CLINTON COOPER

COOPER, aged 43, of Rydings, Windsor, admitted to racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress - words/writing in WIndsor on April 16, 2020.

On April 9, 2021, Reading Magistrates Court found that he intended to cause harassment, alarm or distress used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour thereby causing a person harassment, alarm or distress and the offence was racially aggravated.   

A community order was made, including electronic monitoring with a curfew requirement. He was also ordered to pay £95 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.
