ASDA has issued an apology to a Reading mum after having accidentally given her infant child out-of-date baby milk.

Farrah Artwell, Reading resident, told The Chronicle of her experience with the Asda supermarket on Honey End Lane, Tilehurst, over Twitter on June 2.

She said that she had gone shopping on Monday, May 31, when she bought 10 bottles of Cow & Gate follow-on milk, of which one bottle was given to her 10-month-old son the day after purchase.

It was only after she had fed her child that she noticed six of the ten bottles she bought were five months out-of-date.

Ms Artwell added that the infant was then poorly overnight, claiming he was "arching his back" and "crying loads".

Ms Artwell explained: "Luckily I noticed by the second bottle as the milk has a brown ish colour to it.

"I would love to spread the word for other Mums out there to check the dates and also raise the awareness with the supermarkets."

A spokesman for Asda said: "We are very sorry for Ms Artwell’s experience and have provided a gesture of goodwill to apologise for any distress caused.

"As soon as we were made aware of this issue we checked all of the Cow & Gate formula products on our shelves at our Tilehurst store to ensure they are within date."

Ms Artwell's son soon recovered from being "poorly", and ASDA issued her a £30 voucher for her trouble.
