A FISH and chip staycation guide so you can pair a trip away with great grub has been launched - and it features North Yorkshire venues.

JJ Foodservice, a wholesale food and catering supplies company, has put together the guide to help you combine your UK holiday with the nation’s favourite takeaway – fish and chips.

It comes on National Fish and Chip Day, making a return to the UK for the sixth year in a row following its launch in 2015.

The Staycation Guide features 30 fish and chip shops from all over the UK located near outstanding views and popular tourist attractions.

Millions are expected to holiday at home this year, bringing a much-needed boost to the economy.

"We want to make it easy for people to find the best places to visit while enjoying traditional British fish and chips,” said JJ’s Head of Communications, Elit Rowland.

“From beautiful bays and harbours to historic monuments and museums – we’ve located a chippy nearby.

So where in the region made the cut?

The Magpie Cafe - 14 Pier Rd, Whitby YO21 3PU

A trip to Whitby wouldn't be complete without fish and chips by the beach. The Magpie Cafe is a traditional fish and chips venue with seafood dishes served in an old-school waterfront cafe.

The cafe offers a host of different menus, including specials, takeaway, cook at home and children.

The Fisherman’s Wife  - Khyber Pass, Whitby YO21 3PZ

The Fisherman's Wife boasts 'one of the best sea views of the bay' and local produce, with fish coming from the local market and meat from an award-winning butcher.

The restaurant says it only uses fish from well-managed sources and are caught using methods that minimise damage to marine wildlife and habitats.

On its main and children's menu, it serves traditional fish and chips as well as a variety of seafood and non-seafood dishes.
