A SAGE report has revealed that during a week earlier this month, 100 per cent of new Covid cases in Slough were the Indian variant.
Slough and Reading are two of the 23 areas in the country where the variant is becoming more prevalent over the strains previously reported.

The report identifies the hotspots across the country between May 2 and May 8, 2021.
The data shows areas with five or more cases of the new Indian variant and subsequently comparing this to the total number of genome-sequences infections.
Genomic sequencing analyses the virus sample when it is taken from a patient and compares it with other cases.

In Slough, all five classifiable cases that were recorded were that of the Indian variant.
Comparably, in Reading, five of the cases were the Indian variant, out of a total of seven.
Of the five areas with the highest number of classifiable cases in the aforementioned hotspots, Bolton had the highest level of cases of the Indian variant.
350 cases out of 404 (86.6 per cent) were the Indian variant.
Blackburn with Darwen saw 100 cases of the Indian variant out of 110 (85.9 per cent).
Sefton (105 Indian variant cases out of 116), Bedford (71 cases out of 84) and Nottingham (52 out of 73) make up the top five.
