CELEBRATIONS were held recently after construction reached roof-level on the new community hub being built in Shinfield.

The topping-out ceremony was held at the top of the building on May 11, with the project director Cllr Andrew Grimes and managing director ken Adams gathering at the top of the facility.

Andrew Grimes, project director and Shinfield Parish Council Chair, said: “We are very pleased with how the building is taking shape, and are looking forward to celebrating its opening.

"We will soon be holding a public poll to allow the community to name the new facility, and we hope it will become a community hub for many years.”

The former British Legion building, which closed in 2012, has been converted into a community hub for the area, with the existing parish hall being incorporated into the the building.

The site will include parish offices, a Red Kite children's centre, three halls and four meeting rooms to rent, a small library, a cafe, a landscaped courtyard and more.

The centre will be open to the public later this year, councillors have said.

Managing director Ken Adams added: “LIFE Build are delighted to be working for and with the community.

"We see the Community Centre as a beacon of light and we are proud to be involved in this great project.”
