A FIFTH of people in Reading have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

NHS data shows 26,270 people had received both jabs by May 2 – 21 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Of those to have received both jabs, 21,212 were aged 45 and over – 38 per cent of the age group.

It means 5,058 people aged between 16 to 44 have received both doses.

The Bank predicts gross domestic product (GDP) – a measure of the size of the economy – will rebound by 7.25 per cent in 2021, up from its previous prediction of 5 per cent and the best year of growth since official records began in 1948.

Despite the success of the rollout, many staff at care homes in Reading have not been vaccinated.

The figures show 520 out of 702 eligible staff, including agency workers, at older adult care homes had received a first dose by May 2 – meaning 26 per cent have not had a jab.

The Government is currently in consultation over plans to make the jab mandatory for staff over concerns for residents.
